SANGHA - Maestr@s de Yoga

Coming from cities with strong and committed yoga teachers’ communities Dr. Duran noticed, as she established herself in Merida, that there was a lack of organizations of that type here. Therefore, she founded SANGHA-Maestr@s de Yoga in December of 2018. The objectives of this community are to create a safe and nurturing space where we can support each other, exchange opinions about all “yogisch” issues that matter to us, promote free continuous education, practice and mentoring, and find ways to generously service the communities where we live. All activities are for free; the group has the capacity to hold bilingual sessions (English/Spanish). If we began as a local group, colleagues form other regions- not only of the Americas, but also from Europe- have found their way to our SANGHA. Una vez establecida en Mérida de forma permanente, Alma notó que, a diferencia de otras ciudades donde vivió por muchos años, en Mérida no había ningún grupo de instructor@s de yoga con actividades gratuitas que contribuyeran su desarrollo y crearan una comunidad. Así fue que decidió fundar SANGHA- Maestr@s de Yoga en diciembre del 2018. Los objetivos de este grupo son el crear un espacio seguro y amigable donde podamos apoyarnos un@s a otr@s, intercambiar opiniones e información sobre temas yógicos de nuestro interés, promover la educación continua y el mentorado de nuevas generaciones de forma gratuita, y encontrar formas en que, como instructores de yoga, podamos servir mejor a las comunidades de las que formamos parte. Todas las actividades de SANGHA son gratuitas y el grupo tiene la capacidad de acomodar sesiones bilingües (Español-Inglés). Empezamos como una asociación local pero a raíz de la pandemia del COVID 19 algunos colegas de otras áreas geográficas se han integrado a SANGHA- países no solo en las Américas, sino también en Europa. Smart Moves

These yoga sessions focus on foundational yoga positions, breathing and concentration techniques. This is an accessible conscious and integral 75 minute class in which several options are offered for each movement, so that all can experience Yoga in a way that is safe, strengthening, nurturing, achievable, and individualized. Sequences can be done on/with a chair, if preferred.

This class is specially recommended for those individuals interested in a subtle conscious practice, those looking for a solid Level 1- Beginner's class, populations dealing with a chronic condition, in recovery, or reintegrating after a pause.

SMART MOVES are responsive and interactive online classes via Zoom; you will also have access to the recording for 3 days. This YOGA con ALMA online offering can only be taken as a series of 4 consecutive classes on Mondays at 9:00 am; your fees cover all four sessions of a series and gives you access to the private FB group Alma Duran's Virtual Yoga Room and to The Alapa Series offerings during that same time. Lectures and Courses: Yoga from a historic-anthropological perspective

As an anthropologist, researcher, educator and writer, Dr. Duran has been interesed in mobility and migration for decades. The history of humanity and culture is the history of mobility, she means. Not only people, but also ideas, music, ideologies, food, images, rituals and products travel through time and space.The results of her research have been published in books and well-known international magazines; she has given hundreds of lectures in more than 12 countries.

Yoga also has traveled and continous to change: this is also a subject of intellectual interest for Dr. Duran. She has offered undergraduate and graduate universitary seminars on this subject. Morning Glow Yoga

MORNING GLOW YOGA con ALMA is an active, breath centric and complete 90 minute long practice that increases your strength, balance, concentration and confidence. It is designed for students with yoga experience. Departing from an anatomically informed foundation, each exploration is adaptable to different bodies, sizes and conditions.

Alma Duran's Virtual Yoga Room

To create and nurture a community is a very important yoga practice. Those registered in Alma's classes will have free access to this private online community. In this safe space all participants can connect, exchange information and ideas, pose questions and share with like-minded people. It is a a source of information and a place of generous, open exchange of ideas.

Following the yoga4cancer methodology created by Tari Prinster, this specialized class services the needs of cancer survivors. Selected practices are sequenced in an active and special manner to assist students in counteracting the side effects and longterm/permanent side effects of cancer treatments and their sequels. Special care is placed, so that the sessions promote strength, flexibility and mobility at the same time that they are safe, healing, and nourishing.

The Alapa Sessions

Alapa means conversation or communication in Sanskrit. These 30 to 45 minute free for members sessions offer an opportunity to deepen your understanding of yoga philosophy and its application in diverse yogic techniques (Asana, Pranayama, Bhavanas, meditation, etc.) as well as in quotidian life. Each meeting begins with a short presentation of the theme by Alma and demonstrations of necessary, followed by a group conversation. We also have the time to discuss any issues that are relevant about your practice. Since this is an exclusive offering for those registered currently in YOGA CON ALMA classes, you will be invited to these events through our FB private group page ALMA DURAN'S VIRTUAL YOGA ROOM. It is not necessary to register in this page.

It is natural to breath… ¿right? Yes, but breathing right is not something we do innately. Most of us are chest breathers, shallow breathers, mouth breathers, hyperventilate, often feel breathless, or create unnecessary tension in other body parts as we respire. Plenty of scholarly research has documented that insufficient or improper breathing habits can cause functional disturbances and even illnesses, while good breathing enhances our quality of life. In these individualized sessions you will become aware of your breathing patterns and learn techniques that will help you control, refine and improve your respiration, augment your breathing capacity, sooth your nervous system, improve respiratory, cardiovascular and immune function, and increase your vitality and well-being.

Restorative+Nidra

Un-do stress, re-energize, and find balance through this practice that in skillful way blends Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra.

Gentler on the joints and fascia than Yin Yoga, Restorative is a profoundly soothing experience that restores your body and mind to its equilibrium through a process of deeply relaxing postures. On its part, Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a simple yet powerful body-centered meditative technique that promotes health, healing, and well-being. Research has shown that it effectively reduces post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain, anxiety and chemical dependency. The classes are suitable for all, no experience is requiered.

RESTORATIVE+NIDRA YOGA con ALMA skillfully weaves mantras, selected restorative postures, aromatherapy, and special breathing techniques to help you unwind. Resting comfortably on bolsters and blankets, you will relax into your mat and be carried in a semi-conscious and deeply soothing state in which the physical body can let go of tension entirely. Then you will be verbally guided in a "yogic sleep" state of profound calm and rest. After the session you will feel serene, rested, and rejuvenated.

Easy does it! Accessible & Mindful Chair Yoga

Yoga made accessible!!!! No matter what your condition, you can enjoy the benefits of yoga practice. Using as many props as needed, and variating the movements to fit you, we combine adaptive and functional yoga poses with conscious breathing in a therapeutic way. The practices work holistically, and will allow you to safely increase your range of motion, loosen and stretch painful muscles, and build strength and balance while protecting your joints.

This class is ideal for older adults, those in recovery, persons living in large bodies, who have a sedentary lifestyle, and in general for people who cannot move easily. Those suffering from conditions such as osteoporosis, blood pressure issues, carpal tunnel, chronic pain, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis may also benefit from this gentle form of practice. The mindful practice of yoga can aid to reduce stress and anxiety, improve your breathing patterns and circulation, be helpful to reduce blood pressure and create spacial awareness. Yoga para tu bienestar

YOGA PARA TU BIENESTAR es una clase integral y adaptable a las necesidades de los participantes. Cada sesión incluye Asanas (posturas) con que te fortalecerás y ganarás movilidad, flexibilidad, balance y coordinación. Estas Asanas están guiadas por la respiración (Pranayama), y pueden ir acompañadas de meditaciones, Mudras, y otras técnicas yógicas que te permitirán mejorar tu respiración, calmando al mismo tiempo tu mente y tus emociones. Varias posiciones de yoga restaurativa son incluidas en cada sesión. El ritmo de la clase es pausado y consciente; cada estudiante recibe las modificaciones necesarias para que pueda disfrutar de la práctica y beneficiarse de la misma.
