We are celebrating!!!!
Smart Moves started in March 2020. As the pandemic did not allow us to practice in-person, some of you approached me saying how much you needed yoga. I decided to go online, and many people- especially my teacher and friend J. Brown- generously helped me to learn how to teach effectively online and to figure out all the technicalities involved.
It proved to be a very good decision! Week after week we practiced, got together, shared our joys and fears… establish a community. Our sessions gave our daily life a structure, helped us to take good care of our body-mind-emotions, and allowed us to create a sense of safety and wellbeing despite the horror that was going on.
And after the pandemic, we decided to continue because online practice is convenient and flexible, and the format of monthly themed series allows us to dive deeper into the teachings.
The result has been stability, integration of the practices, wellbeing, and a deep sense of belonging to a community of generous and friendly practitioners: a real Sangha that embodies the spirit of yoga!
As I pause and look back, I can only express how much I admire you, dear friends in yoga, committed SMART MOVES practitioners. Several of you adapted well from the in-person format (we remember dearly our sessions at Semilla Yoga, Café Montejo, Vive+ and La Felicidad Empieza). A good number have been part of this Sangha since our first SMART MOVES session. More recent members have integrated magnificently and are now an integral part of this community we create breath-by-breath across time zones and borders in three continents… pets included!
Let´s look briefly at some numbers, so that you we can measure how far we have come and how solid we are:
A total of 62 Series- some of 4 sessions, others of 5. All fed by the intention of honoring the teachings and our bodies, exploring, learning, and sharing. That comes to a total of 265 sessions- all different, all tailored to your needs. And these were “old-fashion” or traditional 90-minute sessions, plus conversation at the beginning and the end of the each session.
Our FB private page, ALMA DURAN´s VIRTUAL YOGA ROOM continues to be active: through it we deepen the practice, share ideas, reflect, ask questions, exchange impressions and experiences.
Once the pandemic was over, we also enjoyed retreats, group and lunch meetings, and many hours of interactions: We are well connected, we practice on and off the mat, we have built a real Sangha!
My deepest thanks to you for showing up, for supporting my practice and my teaching (I am because you are!), for trusting me, for honoring and making yours the ancient teachings that were transmitted to me so bigheartedly and that I am deeply honored to share with you.
